London firsthand - meeting Sebastian Coe

published: 26.10.2011

Primož Kozmus returned from London, where he met Lord Sebastian Coe, winner of four Olympic medals, who, apart of the role he has as a life-peer in the British Parliament, performs the function of the chairman of the London Olympic Games Organising Committee and Vice-President of the IAAF. Primož was accompanied by a delegation of Slovenian economists and members of the athletic federation, led by the Chairman of the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia Mr Samo Hribar Milič and Peter Kukovica, president of the Athletic Federation of Slovenia.

The »London before London« event, which was held at the premises of the Slovenian Embassy in London in the organisation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia and the Athletic Federation of Slovenia was an excellent opportunity for the meeting of the Slovenian businessmen who operate with the British market, diplomats and other Slovenes in London. The event was opened by the Slovenian Ambassador to Great Britain Mr Iztok Jarc. The welcome was followed by a presentation of the Slovenian economy by Mr Samo Hribar Milič and the presentation of Slovenia as a tourist destination By Mr Tine Murn. Peter Kukovica continued with the presentation of the Olympic Games project and stressed the role of athletics within the Slovenian delegation of sportsmen, which as he predicts would include about 15 athletes, who should return home with at least one medal.
The most serious candidate of Slovenia for the medal, Primož Kozmus said on the occasion: »I deeply respect Sebastian Coe and a fantastic athlete, who managed to upgrade his sports career in his work as a politician. He is a man with a lot of positive energy, which he manages to direct to the right things. His role in the organisation of Olympic Games was and remains enormous and I'm honoured to have met him. We also spoke about the issue of exclusion of hammer throw from the Diamond League and Lord Coe expressed his support and endeavours to bring it back to this important track and field competition. The conversation at the event also focused on the problem of guaranteeing tickets for the Olympic Games. Although it's going to be extremely difficult to get the tickets, I find it fantastic that the hammer throw is scheduled at the same day as the 100 m finals, which is a great promotion for my discipline. The event »London before London« was very well organised and I'm pleased that it was also an opportunity for the economists to network and present Slovenia as a country that has so much to offer in the sports, tourist and economy field.«

The delegation also visited the venue of the Olypic Games, where Primož will defend his title next year and met Hon Niel Parish, MP, responsible for relations with Slovenia.
